E.Q: Does fear make you strong or weak?
Obj: Understand essential events that relate to Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

Starter:
Does fear make you a weaker or stronger person?
Really reflect on yourself.
Explain your answer in a 1/2 page response.

Puritanism:  Beliefs and practices of the Puritans
*the beliefs and practices of people who follow very strict moral and religious rules about the proper way to behave and live

Mass Hysteria: Acondition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness.

McCarthyism:  A mid-20th century political attitude characterized chiefly by opposition to elements held to be subversive and by the use of tactics involving personal attacks on individuals by means of widely publicized indiscriminate allegations especially on the basis of unsubstantiated charges; broadly :  defamation of character or reputation through such tactics.

Activity:
1.  You will be split up into 5 different groups.  

Each group will be responsible for researching one of the following five topics:
Salem Witch Trials
Puritanism
European Witch Hunts (1300-1700)
Mass Hysteria 
McCarthyism

You will then present this information to the entire class.
Your group must create a poster to include the essential facts from your research.

Some of you are equipped with the definition.
Here are other questions to consider while researching.
  • When did this occur?
  • Why did this happen?
  • What are some real life examples of this? (Mass Hysteria)
  • Who was responsible for this?
  • What are 3 critical facts?
  • How did this start and end?
  • What impact did this have on society?
  • How does this relate to fear? 
  • How does this topic relate to the Witch Trials of Salem?

Poster Requirements:
Include the answers to the above questions.
Be neat and legible.
